2 Fun Furniture Refurbs!

I really had fun painting this old night stand. White with charcoal glaze!
I also painted the gorgeous pulls with a thin coat of black.
Sorry, no before pics of these awesome dressers. I decided to try my damask stencil on them. It's super fun!

I also shabbied them up to give that wonderful old look.

Needless to say, they all sold very quickly!
Love the look! ~*~Lynda~*~

My Dining Room!

The much anticipated change in my dining room furniture is COMPLETED! I am very grateful for the hours of help and the skill and knowledge added by my parents to make this project a possibility.

I spent $80 (Craigslist) on this oak dining room table with 6 chairs:

These 3 barstool chairs came from a neighbor's yard sale, I think it was $10 for all of them. They have been waiting for their makeover for about 2 years.

This little random chair was free... the best price, from our neighbors who we were sad moved far away.
So it is a good memory and a perfect place for our Space Saver baby high chair.

The goal - To make all these pieces of dining furniture match this lovely hutch I purchased (Craigslist) about a year and a half ago. I did not paint this, it was already done.

The process began with many hours of deep cleaning, sanding, replacing spindles (using an extra chair purchased at Goodwill for $1 that matched but was in terrible condition), gluing and overall preparations.

Then, my father used his paint sprayer to spray on a primer coat of white free paint, then a final coat of Clark+Kensington Paint, Southern Plantation color. (Total cost for 2 gallons, $55)

After a few days of drying, my mom and I bravely glazed the table and chairs with a tintable glaze mixed with black acrylic paint. It was messy and slightly stressful because of the speed required to get the right look.

How'd we do?

I'm so glad I took on this project and I'm so grateful for all the support in accomplishing it!

Little Touches For Our Guest Bathroom.

Our new bathroom with the ordinary towel bar (hung at an angle). My Handy Honey said "I know you will do something better than that". So, I gathered some items that I already had and.......
made a "Pretty Bird" towel hanger!

Brown glaze over antique white paint!

Do you like?

And while I had my brown glaze going, I applied some to this awesome old cabinet that a dear friend gave to me recently.

I LOVE the quote hanging on the knob! "The future is as bright as your faith", by Pres. Thomas Monson.

Chelsea gave that to me as a special gift!

The Boutique Was So Fun!

Last Friday evening the girls & I shared in the fun at a Holiday Boutique hosted at a friends gorgeous home.We set up in a space along with 2 other awesome gals, which added to the fun!
Most of my items where done in the French Country/Cottage style along with some antique & vintage decor.

The ever so adorable Chelsea & Crystal with baby "M"

Chelsea made these creative magnet boards with super cute magnets. She also made some awesome chalkboards, but I didn't get a picture of them.

Crystal made the wonderful wood placques with sayings on them that get you thinking! She should have made a lot more of the one with the big heart that says love on the bottom. It sold before the boutique even started.

I had a ton of fun making home decor out of random and sometimes unique materials. My Handy Honey was a huge help for me. He made the white table that I displayed all of our goodies on, the 2 black corner shelves, 2 small table display risers, the spindle decor, cut beadboard & concrete board for me & etc.

We didn't really make a ton of money for all of the time & work that we put into it,

but it was a ton fun!
I wish you could hear the laughter that Jess was getting "M" to make!

Some more awesome Home Decor!

I love how this mirror painted up! Creamy white w/gray glaze. Still French provincial looking in shape, but French Country style with the new colors. You can tell that this mirror is very old. We picked it up at an antique store in Utah.

This framed metal hook looks better in person. I still have a very hard time taking pictures of black items.

I like it when home decor also serves a purpose, such as this great 3 pronged hook.

This is a really wonderful repurpose of an old fireplace screen! It can be used sitting on a desk or table (I hung some jewelry on it) and/or it looks really great hanging on the wall as a headboard for a double or twin size bed!
All of these items will be for sale at the Holiday Boutique this Friday

Adorable Rocking Chair

Here is an awesome solid wood, beat up little rocking chair! And here it is after some white paint and pale pinkish glaze! Doesn't it look great all distressed & glazed?

The side view is adorable too!

By the way, I painted those 3 flower wall dowels with the same finish.

Yes, they will be available for purchase at the boutique on Friday, Nov. 18th!

~Amazing Armoire~

I found this armoire at a yard sale! Woo Hoo! The bright blue was pretty, but unfortunately a child went sticker crazy on the doors. It took some muscle & GooGone to get them all off.

This is what I decided to transform it into. I know, it looks like the same finish I gave some previous projects. Off-white satin paint, gray glaze & clear lacquer finish. It's a winner for sales. I had 3 buyers 20 minutes after posting it on Craigslist.
I was reminded when glazing that when the temperature warms up the glaze dries very fast. I actually didn't want the 2 bottom drawers that dark, but the temperature was warmer (92 in the shade) when I glazed the drawers than when I did the rest of the armoire. I will need to remember this because summer is just starting & I live in the valley of the sun.
I left the inside un-glazed, but sprayed it with the clear lacquer to give it a nice hard finish. I also painted the hinges with black enamel. It makes them look clean and new.

Now for the big surprise! This beautiful piece of furniture is made completely of particle board and pressed woods. It is made by the Colony Furniture Company. It seems like better quality than IKEA.

The detail on the front of the doors is really the reason why I bought this armoire! I knew that would look amazing glazed!

I painted the pulls two colors. They were gold. After preparation, I painted a coat of oil-rubbed bronze and then 2 fine coats of black enamel. I really like giving interest to the metal by letting a little bronze show through, but when you look at the pulls you mostly see black.

And here is a close-up of one of the knobs. I love all of the detail in them.

Mid-Century Accent Tables Turned French Country

I had a very lucky (blessed) day at Goodwill and found 2 awesome accent tables to refurbish! Yippee! As you can see the old varnish had yellowed and it was a little beat up, but I know how to fix that.
TaDa! Pearl White satin paint & Gray Glaze! Just beautiful!

I really liked the pulls just the way they were, so, I cleaned them up a bit.

Look at the gorgeous scrolly cut wood lattice! You know how much I love scrolly details!

The drawers were dove tailed construction! Always a special feature. I found some pretty contact paper at Dollar Tree to line the drawers with.

This next table is really special! The top was very messed up, but it was a very exciting moment when I discovered that I could sand it down to refinish it with some nice dark ebony stain.

How do you like her now?

What a beautiful top! Burl Wood on the edge and Pecan (my best guess) in the center.

These drawers were solid wood, but not dove tailed. A very well-made piece of furniture!

The pulls were beautiful too, but I preferred them painted with black enamel.
